Who helped make you the cool person you are today?

The guys I met at my first job, who proved that you could be a whiz-bang superstar system administrator without being a nerd, a tool, or a troglodyte. Six years later, I was myself a rock star, with my blue shades flashing in the sun and my Doc Martens thumping down the halls. Women swooned, twerps scowled, users sighed with relief when I darkened their doors, and upper management thought I was a psychopath but needed to keep their number-one ticket closer from going west.

If there's one thing I really miss, it's being a rock star.

I can deal with the problem users if I'm confident that they are good at their actual job. If what they can do brings in revenue and/or gets results, I am prepared to overlook their technical deficiencies as the cost of getting the value they add otherwise.

When I can't tell what in the hell they do that actually benefits the organization, my tolerance drops.

Precipitously.

Willie, the First, did it. Jock, the Greatest, did it. Now Gordon has led the Bhoys to three straight league titles (and two straight trips to the Champions League round of 16).

It was a rough year - the Phil O'Donnell tragedy, the untimely loss of Tommy Burns, and a dire situation in late March and early April. But if there's one lesson to be learned from Celtic, it's this: as long as there's a minute left to play, or a day left in the season, there's a chance.

What do you daydream about? Is it something far-fetched, or something that might actually happen?

With apologies to Kanter and Ebb, mostly I daydream about being able to like the life I'm living and live the life I like.

Can I do it? Maybe. It often seems like I'm just *this* close before something screws it up. Usually related to work.
